Iraj Eskandari

Iraj Eskandari (b. 1956) is an Iranian painter and academic who holds a BA in Painting from the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Tehran, an MA in Art Research (1995) and a PhD in Art Research (2005), both from the University of Art, Tehran, where he later served as professor and head of the Faculty of Visual Arts. His painting has moved from early figurative, narrative work toward abstraction and minimalism informed by Islamic art, geometry, and carpet motifs, and is distinguished by his use of small mirrors and red-dominant color ranges. He has held solo exhibitions at Soureh Gallery, Arya Gallery, and Homa Art Gallery in Tehran, and was the subject of a retrospective at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art in 2014.
